The naming of the Azores is a flight of fantasy. Those who gave it its first name saw - or imagined seeing - the goshawks (Açores, in Portuguese) flying over the islands and thus named the archipelago after them. In fact, there were no such birds there, but did they hear them anyway? On the same flight, ORNITOFAUNIA is a sonic inventory of imaginary birds from São Miguel, Azores. We will invent hearable images of these birds in the form of ceramic whistles to build a set of ornithofauna…
CAROLINA GARFO
Carolina Garfo graduated in Sculpture at Fine Arts in Lisbon (2015). Born in Paradela, Barroso, Trás-os-Montes, she wandered around in various places, until she returned to rest in the first nest. She solidified contact with artistic ceramics together with her parents, in the Arte da Terra workshop and gallery, while building and branching out projects linked to local people and traditions. She has done group exhibitions and had her first major solo exhibition, Ponto Amarelo, in 2019, which traveled through Lisbon (Galeria do Casino de Lisboa) and Porto (Espaço Ócio).
LENDL BARCELOS
Lendl Barcelos is an artist, writer and has developed a practice in the field of ,kataphysics, here explored through sonic matter. Lendl tends to negotiate multi-modalities of feeling and making sense. Recently, Lendl participated in Infinite Ear (Council), an artistic research program and a series of exhibitions developed in dialogue with people with hearing difficulties. Lendl Barcelos has shown work and organized workshops internationally and is part of the artistic collective intermedia 0 [rphan] D [rift>]. You can often hear Lendl laugh.
