After his re-emergence with 2016’s We Be All Africans (the first chapter of a trilogy that would include the world-acclaimed An Angel Fell and Shaman!),  historic bandleader and saxophonist Idris Ackamoor is back with Afro Futuristic Dreams, an epic, sprawling new work exploring the future, the past, and the urgent reality of the present. Side by side with the superband The Pyramids, they introduce us to a new journey of their intergalactic musical odyssey, one that has been expanding the limits of jazz through afrofuturistic views and avant-garde experimentation. Released in line with the celebrations of the bands’s 50th anniversary, the new record represents another bold step in Ackamoor’s ever-evolving career. One that always leaps forward, exploring traditions, styles, and harmonic/rhythmic combinations that further musical conversations to an as-yet-unseen creative horizon.
