The Azorean festival Tremor has been selected for the list of six finalists for the Legacy Global Arts Prize 2025, after being included in an initial shortlist of 16 cultural initiatives from around the world. The Global Arts Prize is an annual award that grants 60,000 dollars to two cultural organisations that stand out for the innovative nature of their artistic work, recognising creative projects capable of driving cultural, social, and environmental progress. Managed by the Global Leaders Institute (GLI) — a graduate school dedicated to social entrepreneurship in the arts, based in Washington, D.C. — the prize is open to organisations of any size, location, or artistic field. GLI’s mission is to equip creative professionals with the skills needed to lead cultural organizations and foster a new generation of innovators in the arts sector.
If it wins the prize, Tremor is committed to investing in strengthening accessibility and inclusion at the festival, ensuring that its transformative cultural experiences are available to a wider audience, free from physical or social barriers. The investment will make it possible to expand participatory programming — including Portuguese Sign Language interpretation, adapted performances, audio description, and tickets for wheelchair companions — and to improve physical access to festival venues, from performance halls to natural landscapes and community settings. The festival also plans to offer training in inclusive cultural practices to its team and volunteers, increase transport and mobility options for audiences with reduced mobility, and broaden its free cultural programming in public spaces, bringing Tremor closer to new audiences. In addition, the festival aims to create more opportunities for local artists through open calls and exchange networks, strengthening its work in amplifying the Azorean arts scene.
The winner will be announced on 9 December.
