From October 12th to 17th, 2025, the island of Terceira will host Terra Incógnita, returning for a new phase of artistic residencies dedicated to sound and performative creation in dialogue with the natural environment. During this period, artists Antonella Barletta and Samuel Martins Coelho will be in residence on the island, exploring the landscape and its rich sensory dimensions.
On October 15th, at 18:15, a conversation with the artists will take place at Livraria Lar Doce Livro, a moment open to the public where processes, ideas, and experiences will be shared. The final presentation, resulting from the residency, will take place on October 17th, 2025, at 9:00, in a natural location on the island. Participation in the activities is free, with registration required for the final presentation via this form.
Antonella Barletta, a pianist and composer from Bari, Italy, has developed a solid career as a performer, teacher, and creator. Trained at the Conservatory “Niccolò Piccinni,” she is known for the versatility of her work, which crosses classical music, jazz, and the exploration of traditional Azorean sounds. She is the resident pianist of Orquestra Angra Jazz and founder of the Wave Jazz Ensemble, with which she released the album “Perspectivas” (2022). She is also a member of the female group Línguas de Fogo and participated in the project “Celebrar Natália” (2024).
Samuel Martins Coelho is a violinist and multi-instrumentalist recognised for his experimental and interdisciplinary approach to musical creation. With classical training, his work spans between classical music, electronics, and improvisation. He collaborates on multiple projects—such as I ERROR, Space Ensemble, and ondamarela—and has composed soundtracks for film, theatre, and dance. In 2025, he was nominated for the Sophia Awards for the original soundtrack of “O Pior Homem de Londres”. His work combines technical rigour with aesthetic innovation, exploring the boundaries between sound, space, and emotion.
The project Terra Incógnita proposes new ways to experience and reinterpret the Azorean natural territory. It intersects artistic creation, environmental exploration, and reflection on the relationship between humans and nature. Through residencies, presentations, and open conversations, it encourages attentive listening to the landscape and fosters dialogue between art, ecology, and community. This edition on Terceira continues the path started on São Miguel, establishing itself as a space for encounter, experimentation, and discovery.
