In its first edition, the Faísca open call, which aims to bring new voices of music made in the Azores to Tremor festival, received a total of 54 entries from seven Azorean islands—Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Faial, São Jorge, Faial, and Flores. Proposals included music of various genres, multidisciplinary projects and community-based and participatory initiatives, proving the vitality and diversity of the archipelago's creative sector.

After a process of evaluation and consideration, the programming team selected two projects to be part of the 2025 edition of the festival, favouring the presentation of new proposals in an attempt to adapt to the performance spaces and the context provided by the festival.

Faísca's choices thus fell on the poetic and musical journey of Tarina, a project by singer-songwriter Catarina Fernandes, who lives and works between São Miguel and France, and tells a story of ‘an overlong emigration’, reflecting on ‘longing, the struggle and adaptation’; and the Oboé com Asas project by musician, teacher and conductor Tiago Marques, who lives and works on the island of São Jorge and explores the possibilities of the oboe with the freedom of experimental music and the desire to create a language that transcends conventions between classical and contemporary music.

Tremor's programming team, headed by Marina Rei, Márcio Laranjeira, Joaquim Durães, Luis Banrezes, and António Pedro Lopes, would like to express their gratitude for the impressive amount of proposals submitted and to applaud the abundance, diversity and vibrancy of the musical universe, which reveals an archipelago full of ideas, creativity and the creation of a community around music.

The large number of submissions as well as their sheer strength allows the festival to map the new music made in the region, to further stimulate the different types of music made in the Azores, and to expand the list of artists it follows, supports and presents. Faísca demonstrates to Tremor Festival the urgent mission of strengthening and creating more spaces for the presentation of music made in the Azores, and of building platforms where narratives are told and the inventiveness and multiplicity of the artistic voices that make up the archipelago are presented.

In future editions, and in other projects created by Plutão Camaleão, the knowledge brought by Faísca will help Tremor's programming team to think of potential new programme sectors, as well as to imagine new solutions that respond to the sector's needs.
