In its second edition, the open call Faísca, which brings new voices from music made in the Azores to the Tremor festival, received a total of 36 proposals originating from six Azorean islands — Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Pico, São Jorge, and Flores.
The proposals covered a wide range of musical genres — pop, new age, hip hop, metal, rock, hard rock, traditional music, techno, drum & bass, indie rock, house, among others — including bands, solo artists, collectives, DJs, and multidisciplinary projects, once again proving the vitality and diversity of the Archipelago’s creative sector.
In a year celebrating 50 years of autonomy, after a process of evaluation and reflection, the programming team prioritized the originality and relevance of the proposals, the diversity coming from different islands in the archipelago, and their suitability for the performance spaces and the context provided by the festival.
Four proposals were selected for presentation at Tremor 2026, twice as many as in the previous edition. Taking the stage at next year’s festival are: the volcanic metal of Buried by Lava, a heavy quartet from Nordeste on São Miguel Island; the reinvention of the viola da terra by the duo Engengroaldenga from Santa Maria Island; the infectious DJing infused with Electronic, Tech House, Latino Mix, Guaracha, HyperPop, and AltFunk by ASCA from Flores Island; and NTK, the fierce rap alter ego of musician Diogo Teixeira from São Jorge Island.
The Tremor programming team thanks you for submitting your proposal and applauds the diversity and energy found in the archipelago’s musical universe, as well as the various creative scenes and communities that emerge from it. Not being selected in this call is not an end in itself; we therefore express our interest in continuing to follow the work of artists, DJs, bands, and collectives, and reaffirm our commitment to creating new opportunities.
Faísca allows the Tremor festival to annually map, get to know, and follow the different music being made in the Azores, expanding the range of artists it follows, supports, and presents. In this second edition, Faísca increased visibility and created more performance opportunities for music created in the Azores. In future editions of the festival, and in other projects developed by Plutão Camaleão, Faísca will continue to help us imagine potential new programming areas, as well as devise new solutions that respond to the needs of the sector.
